2018 Family Mission Trip

Who: Families with elementary aged children (K-6th grade) and their siblings. Any age is welcome if you feel comfortable!

When: Friday, June 8-Sunday, June 10.
We’ll depart Friday morning, and conclude by lunch time on Sunday for folks to head home at their leisure.

Where: Little Rock and Hot Springs Arkansas. We will stay at Ferncliff Presbyterian Camp located outside of Little Rock, AR. We’ll do service at several different sites.

Theme: Much of our mission revolves around issues related to global hunger and poverty. We learn about how to address root causes of poverty at Heifer Ranch, the faces of poverty at Jackson House Pantry, and how we do mission together in partnership at the Disaster Assistance Center and with Stop Hunger Now at Ferncliff.

Purpose: The purpose of this trip is two fold:

  1. Provide family appropriate mission and education projects at three sites:
    • Camp Fern Cliff: they have a Presbyterian Disaster Assistance warehouse on site and have family appropriate projects like sorting, putting together hygiene kits, or simple organization of supplies. They also have a new Stop Hunger Now nutrition packet system.
    • Heifer: families tour the global village and see animals up close. We will do some teambuilding and programming based on the ages of our group.
  2. Fellowship and Faith Formation: Given the age range, a large portion of this trip comprises of family activities such as games, group cooking, recreation, and group worship/devotions. This piece reinforces the simple mission tasks and provides space and time for families to bond with one another looking intentionally at the “why” of mission and service.

Cost: Children $60 and Adults $125. Scholarships are available.

Accommodations: Ferncliff Eco-Lodge. This lodge sleeps 24 and has rooms with individual bathrooms and twin beds 2-4 per room. Enjoy mornings on the front porch swing, and evenings watching your kids run around and catch fireflies. Depending on our group size we’ll divide up by family or by gender.

Amenities: There is a pool, climbing wall, shady chute, blueberry picking, hiking trails etc. all on property.
